About The Lakes College - After & Before College Care

As part of our commitment to families, The Lakes College provides quality care for all students of all year levels, before and after normal school hours, and in vacation periods. Parents are encouraged to enrol in the College Care Program at the time students commence with the College. Families attending College Care may be eligible to receive assistance with fees through the Australian Child Care Subsidy. Information is available from the service or Centrelink.

During school terms, College Care is open from 6:30am until 8:20am for Before College Care (BCC) and from 3:00pm until 6:30pm for After College Care (ACC). During Vacation Care (VC) we are open from 7:00am to 6:00pm. During ACC we provide a healthy and varied afternoon tea menu which is informed by health and nutrition, individual’s needs (i.e. allergies) and children’s likes & dislikes.

College Care recognises the importance of play as part of every child’s learning. The program aims to provide play and leisure based activites that extend on children’s current interests and needs. The program provides opportunities for children to participate in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor activities including cooking, art and craft, group games and sports. Our flexible environments also allow children to choose activities as individuals or in small groups to pursue experiences that are of their own choice. Educators are always encouraging of children’s ideas and often base experiences around these.

We have been in this school for over 7 years, we have 3 children in there, both in primary and secondary, and we love it. Our kids love every minute and every aspect of their school experience at TLC, they are involved in a wide range of activities, including the beloved Dance Troupe, and it is all amazing (including the leader of the dance troupe who is in fact a real teacher and an outstanding one at that ;) - in reference to one of the posts above). Yes, it is a relatively new school, and relatively small, but this is exactly why it is so special: it is a really close-knit community. Every leader and every teacher knows every student and their parents, parents and siblings know each other, even the school's chef has an amazing relationship with the kids. And it is priceless for our family. I understand that some people had a different experience, or that they have other priorities when it comes to choosing a school for their kids, you obviously can't please everyone, but this is my two cents. I highly recommend The Lakes College, it's been the perfect choice to our family.

Unfortunately, there is not zero star score. This school does not care about the students, they focus on a handful of students, to keep the score of the tests relatively high i.e. "Naplan, op, etc.". The rest of the students have a low knowledge and scores are not high. Teachers do not stay long the rotation is high so there is not continuity and consistency in the curriculum. The bathroom hygiene is deplorable, my kids complain of smells, as a parent, we complain about it and the school's directives did not care at all. The dance studio is the worst, the head of the dance studio is not a good person and she is not a teacher at all. Again, she only concentrates on a handful of dancers. More than 9 hours rehearsals and some kids wait for three hours doing nothing. We complaint again with the school board and they only care about money, nothing else. We have more than six pages of complaints if someone is interested I am happy to share the disgraceful experience in the TLC.
