About Star of the Sea Long Day Care + Kindergarten, Cleveland

Star of the Sea Long Day Care + Kindergarten, Cleveland

Watch them grow

At Star of the Sea Long Day Care + Kindergarten our aim is to help your child grow and blossom. The early years of education and care are the foundation for every child’s future. We see these years as an opportunity to instil in children a love of learning and self-discovery that will continue to develop through their further education. In this way we share the aspirations of all families to watch their children grow.

We care for children from six weeks of age and offer a Queensland Government approved kindergarten program for children in the year before prep. Our kindergarten program is taught by a university qualified early childhood teacher and focuses on teaching your child foundational literacy, numeracy and science skills. We offer nutritious, age-specific meals for morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea, prepared on site by our cook and approved by Nutrition Australia.

We are conveniently located on the grounds of Star of the Sea Primary School and your child will benefit from our close relationship with the school.

Watch them grow confidently

Your child will benefit from our close relationship with Star of the Sea Primary School becoming comfortable and confident in the school environment before they make their transition to prep. In kindergarten your child will make regular visits to the school library and attend school events throughout the year including book week and liturgies.

These excursions are practical experiences that build confidence. The children learn how to use the water bubblers, understand what the signs in the school mean, see what a classroom looks like and where the toilets are, find out where mum and dad will drop them off and pick them up each day and generally build their familiarity with the school environment. These excursions are not only great fun for your child but they also allow our teachers to observe the way they respond to a different environment.  Our teachers will use these observations to work one-on-one with your child to build their confidence in different ways.

Watch them grow creatively

Children use creativity and curiosity as tools to explore and learn about the world. Our educators provide an environment that captures their imagination and encourages children to express themselves.

Does your child have dramatic flare? In our dramatic play spaces or ‘home corners’ children can take on a new role every day with their friends by running an ice cream parlour, a doctor’s surgery or a mechanics garage.

Does your child love to paint and draw? Our art resources have been carefully selected to trigger exploration and are stored in movable trolleys so children can take inspiration from different spaces. With leaves, pipe cleaners, playdough and many other resources your child will be able to explore their creativity during indoor and outdoor play every day.

At Star of the Sea Long Day Care + Kindergarten we are committed to getting to know your child and family so we can create programs which reflect your child’s talents and interests and capture their imagination.

I had issues with Linda the director and a worker named Jessica both of them put hands on my daughter my daughter had a hard time settling down at day care the rest of the workers would tell me that my child had a good day but there were apparently behaviour observations that had been put in about my daughter but they would not tell me to my face and until I reported to Linda that something had happened to my daughter that I witnessed none of her “behaviours” had been spoken to me about when asked why her and Simone the office lady said that the workers are to scared to tell me because there scared of me I’m 21 for crying out loud. If workers can not tell parents what is happening with there children then they should not be working with there children and even if the workers can’t the director should be telling the parents as they get the behaviour charts Another things is is that the behaviour charts I where given had dates missing my daughter birthday wrong on some of them they had dates in the time box and the date one in my opinion very rushed looked like the same person wrote then and then they had the room workers sign them My daughter is undergoing assessment for adhd and asd They also put her comfort items away in the class room away from her know that they can regulate her but Linda stated that not everyone was aware of this even after linda had been told when I first put her in there that she needed them at all times so over all not very impressed with the care and the communication with the workers and the director themselves

My daughter has been at Star of the Sea for two years and in that time she has been diagnosed as have global developmental delays but thanks to the staff who have helped both her and I to adjust and embrace her uniqueness we are both thriving! The staff are beyond kind, they have gone above and beyond to make sure my daughter is included and supported and have helped me too navigate the world of having a child with diversity. I couldn’t recommend this daycare enough. Warm, friendly, kind and compassionate.
