About St Mary's Community Preschool
St Mary's Community Preschool is a community based, not-for-profit children's service situated in the heart of Casino, rural NSW. Our preschool service caters for up to forty 3-5 year olds each day accommodating 20 children within two preschool rooms. Priority of access for enrollment is given to children in the year before school and to low income families and Indigenous families. The preschool welcomes families from diverse backgrounds and aims to provide an environment which is culturally responsive and respectful, providing for the individual and educational needs, interests and strengths of all children.
The preschool operates from 7.30am - 3.00pm five days a week in-line with the NSW state school calendar. St Mary's Community Preschool has been a part of the vibrant Casino community for over thirty years. Both preschool rooms are staffed by qualified early childhood educators, that work as a team providing a play based educational program for children aged 3-5 years. Our educational curriculum is underpinned by the Early Years Learning Framework which guides the implementation of high quality children's education. There is a strong focus on building children's resilience, self-confidence and sense of well being as we help children develop a sense of belonging as members of our preschool and the wider community. Children's social and emotional growth is supported by our belief in the importance of building relationships with those around us and how we can work to be empathetic and thoughtful in our interactions and communications.
The preschool has a lovely outdoor environment with a combination of natural and man-made soft-fall spaces, garden areas, dry creek bed, and paved and sheltered areas to explore and investigate. We also have a large shaded outdoor space, allowing for indoor/outdoor experiences, regardless of the weather. Children's experiences, materials and play areas are planned using observations with consideration to ways in which children can extend their learning. Educators support children's learning through quality interactions, relationships and intentional teaching practices, using open-ended resources that support multiple ideas and ways of learning. Through the daily program educators plan to extend children's knowledge and skills in the areas of literacy, mathematics, physical, social and emotional learning.
