We left this childcare centre more than a year ago, and it has taken me this long to find the courage to share our experience.

We enrolled our daughter in the Lily Room when she was around 1–2 years old. At first, we thought her constant crying was simply separation anxiety, especially because she was too young to communicate how she was feeling. Looking back, I wish we had paid more attention.

When she moved into the Daisy Room at 2–3 years old, things became even more difficult. There were no consistently familiar educators, frequent new faces, and we went through three different managers during our time there. Our daughter cried intensely at almost every drop-off and pick-up for around three months.

One day, I went to the centre during lunchtime because I was very worried. I saw her crying desperately and following an educator for comfort, but she was not being comforted.

To be fair, there were a few educators who genuinely cared for and loved our daughter, but they were not always there.

After moving her to a new childcare centre, she settled within just three weeks. She stopped crying at drop-off and was happy and excited to see me at pick-up.

The difference was huge. From our experience, consistent educators and being able to comfort and emotionally support a distressed child make a very important difference.
