About Pymble Turramurra Preschool
In many ways, Pymble Turramurra Preschool has remained much the same since its inception in 1962. While we embrace change and new teaching methodologies, our core values remain – respect, sharing, a sense of community and belonging and a love of our natural environment.
Pymble Turramurra Preschool has always been a warm and welcoming place. From the minute people walk in the door, adults and children alike feel welcome. Our children always know where they fit at preschool, and feel safe, secure and relaxed while they are here.
Over our 50 year history we have achieved a reputation for excellence in Early Childhood Education, and for providing young people with the foundations they will draw on for the rest of their lives.
“Where play is the business of childhood.” For a child, play is their “work”. It is important for normal, healthy growth and facilitating the development of skills and competencies.
“Young children’s play allows them to explore, identify, negotiate, take risks and create meaning. The intellectual and cognitive benefits of playing have been well documented. Children who engage in quality play experiences are more likely to have well-developed memory skills, language development, and are able to regulate their behaviour, leading to enhanced school adjustment and academic learning.”

Pymble Turramurra Preschool aims to provide a safe, caring, social, stimulating, learning environment; to respect and nurture each child’s uniqueness and style of learning to promote the “Whole Child”; to foster a creative learning environment where teaching, play and communication form our basis for learning; and to promote a strong community spirit by encouraging social interaction with families.

Our Approach to Education and Programme Philosophy
We believe the best way to work with you and your child is by building a partnership of care. To do this we want you to feel:
Welcomed, recognised, acknowledged and respected by all our staff.
That your child really knows and is known by the people who care for him or her.
Your child is not just looked after but really cared for.
You are given lots of information about what is occurring and are asked for your views.
We recognise that each child and their family are to be appreciated as individuals, with their varying needs met.
We believe provision of a safe, caring, social, stimulating learning environment is paramount.
We foster a creative environment where teaching, play and communication form our basis for learning.
We incorporate into our programme current early childhood practices.
We welcome families from all cultures and ethnic backgrounds and honour and respect diversity.
Pymble Turramurra Preschool’s programme provides an environment where children can develop practical school readiness skills in an engaging and interactive way, meeting the necessary social and emotional needs for children to be successful in their transition to school.
The children are offered a wide range of stimulating educational activities with the structure and security of a daily routine. Please read our Pymble Turramurra Preschool Parent Handbook for full programming details.

Our Preschool is steeped in history, with many current parents having been students here themselves.
Pymble Turramurra Preschool was built in 1962 on land leased from Ku-Ring-Gai Municipal Council. The building has since been extended and renovated to facilitate today’s requirements. All building funds have been raised by supportive parents, residents and grants independent of Preschool fees.
Pymble Turramurra Preschool has been affectionately called Handley Avenue, for as long as anyone can remember. The founders, with all their vision, would be pleased to know their Preschool stands so proudly as part of the Ku-Ring-Gai community in the twenty first century.
Our full history can be read here or you can order a copy of our heritage book “Handley 1962 – 2007” A history of Pymble Turramurra Preschool.

Pymble Turramurra Preschool Reviews

They may have had me with their fairy garden & free range chooks, but when I met the educators with their wealth of experience and longevity at Handley Ave, I was sold. They each possess all the qualities required to teach, love and grow your child. Max has learnt so much from this pre-school in such a short period of time, I couldn't be happier. Mel's (the Director) calm positivity is also what makes it extra special.

A pre-school like no other. Amazing caring & long-serving staff, every one of whom knows my child & our family. Beautiful grounds & facilities. A real community which is so rare in today's fast-paced society.
