Pachamama blew me away during my visit as an early childhood teacher on their open day yesterday. The whole environment there is just so refreshing and inspiring, very unique and homely. As someone who grew up in Kalamunda hills area, through their environments and philosophy they have really captured the unique culture of the hills and what makes living in the area special. Nature has been integrated into everything. From the materials they use to the way they design the play areas, it's all about connecting kids with the world around them. And it's not just functional – everything is so beautiful and inviting. I was really impressed with their curriculums and the learning on display– it was all about letting children take the lead and learn through their own exploration. Walking through the centre, I could see how everything was set up with the child in mind. It's like they've created this magical space where kids can just be themselves and dive into whatever interests them. I kept thinking how I would have loved to have been in that space as a child! The staff were so knowledgeable, and could explain the 'why' behind their teaching and environments in detail. It's evident that they are passionate and close knit team. It's like they've taken the best parts of Reggio Emilia and the EYLF and made them come alive in this vibrant, nurturing environment. As a teacher, it was so inspiring to see a place that truly values and celebrates childhood. I like forward to critically reflecting on the photos, inspiration and learning with my team next week.
