About ORCHARD EARLY LEARNING CENTRE KIRRAWEE

At Orchard Early Learning Centres, our philosophy is inspired by leading educational practitioners such as Emmi Pikler and Loris Malaguzzi, as well as current research and theory to inform our pedagogy and practice.

It is a living document that reflects the knowledge, beliefs and values of our early childhood Educators, children, families and the wider community.

We believe in stretching the realms of everyday practice and reconceptualising risk through a developmental lens. We advocate for the potential benefits of taking risks for children’s agency, learning and wellbeing as it helps children test their physical limits, develop their perceptual-motor capacity, and learn to avoid and adjust to dangerous environments and activities.

Edit: This is a reflection of my review back in November, as I have now pulled my child out of this centre. While I do believe the centre is wonderful and the staff are exceptional.. I believe they are lacking leadership, planning, routine, and overall the communication between staff and parents. An incident happened with my child, two days in a row and when I asked staff what happened with the first incident, I was told they didn't know or see anything. When the second incident happened the next day, we wrote an email asking them what happened. We were informed that Koh, the director would be in contact with us for a follow up, which she never did and we found this very disappointing and felt as if our child was insignificant. Numerous instances had accumulated, leaving us worried and disappointed but this was the nail in the coffin which made us decide to pull our child out and enrol in a different, and smaller centre. We know accidents happen, kids are rough, what worries me is the lack of communication between staff and what seems to be lack of supervision with so many children enrolled. Overall, we loved the staff, but in the year and a half that my child was attending, he bought home 5 pieces of art, no portfolio or programming and came home sunburnt on multiple occasions. They also lost his sleep comforter. So I am forced to adjust my rating as overall it wasn't a great experience. Original: My son has been attending this wonderful centre since it opened it's doors. The centre is one of a kind with state of the art facilities, such as the whole outdoor area which has a garden, chickens, stingless bees and the tractor. The food which they provide is also a cut above the rest, as our 3 year old was a picky eater before attending and they have helped improve his diet immensely. All the wonderful educators, and staff are always so friendly, patient and well informed with practices. They not only provide care for the children, but a quality education too.

Educators are lovely but the management and more senior staff are very unprofessional. We were promised so much when we went to the opening and open day about the app and all the educational programmes etc but this wasn't what we experienced. The app doesn't work and the information captured is incorrect! When you pick your child up in the afternoon none of the staff can give you a clear or accurate answer. There are too many educators or casual staff working with your child that people don't actually know how long my child slept of whether she ate all her food etc. Again if the app worked then we wouldn't need to know this information. In 1yr of being with Orchard we got 2 pieces of artwork that our daughter had done. Nothing else. No other information on what they had learnt or what other activities they had done. We addressed these issues early on to the centre directors and to this day we still haven't had any calls or emails from anyone. Lack of service in general is the common theme and zero accountability from anyone. Oh and try get your bond back when you leave! Took more than 30 days!
