Philosophy & Guidelines

At Mini Graduates Early Learning Centre our Philosophy reflects and is guided by ‘Being, Belonging, Becoming: The Early Years Learning Framework’ and the ‘National Quality Framework’. Our Philosophy is our values and what we strive to achieve within our learning centre.

Belonging
As early childhood professionals we understand and recognise that children first belong to their families, their cultural group and then the wider community (Bronfenbrenner’s theory).
We understand that families have the most valuable information about their children and we aim for parents to share with us this information. We strive to develop positive relationships based on respect, mutual trust and open communication, and with an understanding of the significant role families play in children’s learning.
We believe that once children form secure attachments, they will be able to thrive in all area of development (Bowl of attachment theory).
Our educators will act on behalf to protect and advocate for all children and their families. Respect, teamwork and trust are the qualities that bind us

Being
We strongly believe that all children are individuals and learn and develop at their own pace. We understand the importance to promote strengths, uniqueness, individuality, strengths, weaknesses, prior knowledge and experiences that each and every child, family and educator brings to our Early Learning Centre.
We have strong beliefs in equal opportunities regardless of gender, culture, socio-economic background and the support and inclusion of individuals who require additional support.
Children learn best through play and its processes; however as educators we see play in its entirety as where learning is multifaceted.
Educators actively observe, engage with and extend children’s learning by encouraging the child to investigate, explore, test, predict, problem solve, negotiate, reflect and research through play and in collaboration with each other and the educators.

Becoming
Our program encompasses the Emergent Curriculum and the Reggio Emilia philosophies where educators facilitate and are intentional teachers who support, guide and encourage children’s learning.
We believe that educators play a vital role in shaping and scaffolding children’s identities giving the abilities to face life’s challenges.
The program and routines of the centre empowers children to make choices, to be contributing members of society, responsible individuals and working towards their independence, where they can begin to understand that they are individuals.
Documentation of our children’s learning is accessible to all concerned through daily reflective journals. Children’s learning journey is also documented monthly in their portfolios using observations, photographs and work samples, all linking to the Early Years Learning Framework.
We encourage parents and families to become active participants within our early learning centre and to examine our programming and offer input.
Educators are encouraged to continuously advance their skills and knowledge through ongoing professional development and to take time to self evaluate their current practices.
We work in partnership with a range of tertiary institutions eg TAFE and Universities to foster and educate students in becoming high quality Early Childhood Professionals.
At Mini Graduates ELC we believe in each child capacity to succeed and aim to provide inclusive programs to ensure positive outcomes for all children.
We recognise our educators are the most important factor in providing a high quality standard of education and care for each child. Educators are encouraged to continually seek ways to build on their professional knowledge and practice through professional enquiry, reflective practices and professional development.

At Mini Graduates ELC we provide an exemplary model of Early Childhood Education.

Sun Protection
We follow practices recommended by the Cancer Council in relation to skin protection for staff and children. Mini Graduates ELC is also a “Sun Smart Childcare Centre” and is recognised by the Cancer Council of NSW for its sun protection policy and guidelines. (Please click on this link for further information at Cancer Council of NSW)
The centre has a policy whereby children without a hat remain in covered and shaded areas only. We encourage children to wear their hats everyday whilst at childcare
Educators will apply SPF30+ broad spectrum sunscreen to the children prior to outdoor activities.

Parents are encouraged to have sunscreen applied to their child on arrival to the centre.

I am sooo thankful that I found this childcare for both my children ages 4 and 2. After my daughter awful experience at a neighbouring childcare where she was physically harmed by the teachers themselves therefore withdrawing from everyone we found this heaven sent childcare and my daughter is now shining. So thankful to all the girls working there and head staff. You guys really are a 2nd home to my kids. They now wake up asking to go school whereas previously she would beg me to stay home. Thanks ladies
