We had a truly awful experience. Our youngest required feeding from a nasal-gastric tube for about six months. All staff including the educators refused to feed our son. We had specialists come in to show them how easy it was, even a social worker who works with child care centers across Brisbane came in too, (she’d never seen a child care Centre be so obstructive). All to just be told they wouldn’t do it. In fact the way they dismissed us and refused to feed him was quite patronizing. It made a very difficult time in our lives even harder. We even tried to seek additional funding for them - not that it was needed, more just desperation - but they refused. Thankfully, our son improved and the issue was resolved - but I still can’t believe that they were happy to leave our son starving all day, rather than learn a two minute procedure. I had to come in two or three times a day from work to feed him a bottle myself. Despite this happening a few years ago, the discrimination and stress from this situation still feels very raw which is why I am posting this now. If you think that by being attached to a hospital it means your child will get better care, you will be bitterly disappointed.
