Lauriston Kindergarten

The Lauriston Kindergarten program creates confident, lifelong learners by delivering dynamic 3- and 4-year-old curriculums via a team of well-trained, passionate and attentive educators.

When your child becomes a part of our Kindergarten community, we seek to know them, to understand them, to connect with them, to reveal their ideas, to challenge their thinking, and develop their sense of identity.

Importantly, we work closely with you to ensure your child is ready for and will thrive in the school environment.

Our 3-and 4-year-old early learner programs are grounded in the play-based theories of Reggio Emilia. The philosophies of the Schools of Reggio Emilia view the environment as ‘the third teacher’ thus we create situations that encourage children to engage in investigation and provide rich learning opportunities.

Along with the vital work of developing pre-numeracy and literacy capabilities, we have planned programs to develop skills in STEM, the creative arts and celebrate culture within our curriculum, to broaden the children’s understanding of themselves and their place in the world.

Specialist classes are offered in both kinder years and include Music, Drama, Physical Education and Bush Kinder. It’s a broad program, enhanced by its connection to a wider School where our Kindergarten students learn in and enjoy a dedicated STEM lab, gym, pool, music, and drama facilities.

A childcare facility adjoins the Kindergarten operating from 7.30am–6.00pm and is eligible for government childcare subsidies. The children are grouped into four different age groups, which provide stability, security and stimulation for all children enrolled.

Breakfast, morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea is provided for all children. Sutherland House is closed on public holidays and for three weeks over the Christmas period.
