Based on my experience I absolutely do not recommend using this daycare as I do not believe they are a safe service. My baby received a skull fracture while attending here and the way the situation was handled was extremely distressing and unacceptable. Initially I received a phone call describing a “near miss” and my baby had been grabbed on the legs to stop a fall, they said she was upset but had settled and might have a bruise on her leg from where she was grabbed. I asked if it was possible she’d hit her head on anything and was told by the director “absolutely not”. When I picked her up the staff said she’d been crying and was upset, her skull was visibly swollen and felt soft. Following the presentation to hospital and investigation by child safety, I received several phone calls from the daycare director with different and inconsistent stories about how the injury occurred. The first phone call was a full denial of any head injury, the police went and interviewed them, and I was told by the doctors they were informed that no head injuries had occurred. After discussing with the doctors, the police went back to the daycare and during the second interview the doctors said the explanation was that there had been a fall from a change table, but they had grabbed her legs, and her head had hit a staff member’s knee. I then received another phone call from the daycare director who then said they had grabbed her arms to stop her fall, and they had been monitoring her all day for any head injury symptoms, but she’d been completely fine. I was promised an investigation by Good Start, but I still haven’t gotten confirmation about how the injury occurred. This injury was following two complaints I’d issued to the service only a week before, where my 7-month-old baby was only given 60mls breastmilk during a long day of care, and another incident where they only fed from the one bottle all day reheating it several times. The director and one of the infant carers also frequently smelled strongly of cigarette smoke. The doctors said this injury could have been life threatening and that immediate emergency care was critical. The impact of this experience on my child and family has been profound.
