About Froebel Carlton Early Learning Centre

Froebel Carlton is a not-for-profit early learning centre with an integrated funded Kindergarten program, located in the heart of Melbourne Connect. Our centre caters for up to 92 children aged 6 months to 5 years of age and stretches over 3 levels which have been architecturally designed, with a stunning rooftop playground for all children to enjoy. Each level also features semi-open wintergardens for protected year-round play. We have our own in-house chef preparing all meals freshly and daily on site in our kitchen theatre which is adjacent to the children’s dining hall.

Our educational program focusses on

  • inquiry-based learning with our Little Scientists program.. This program will ignite your child's natural curiosity and encourage them to explore the world surrounding them.Part of our STEM learning program is implemented during excursions for all our age-groups to the local surrounds and beyond – we are so lucky to have beautiful parks nearby.
  • immersive language learning program with Spanish as a second community language. Being exposed to more languages will be a boost to your child's cognitive development. A number of our educators are Spanish speakers and ispeak with the children in Spanish throughout the day, alongside their English-speaking colleagues, allowing children to pick up the new language very naturally. Supported is our immersive language learning program by Spanish books, songs, games, routines and we also celebrate traditions from Spanish-speaking countries, alongside Australian events and traditions from our diverse team of educators.
  • We also focus on sustainability at our service, implemented through practices such as providing wet bags and eco-friendly nappies. Education for Sustainable Development is a part of our teaching, with meaningful projects, empowering children to care for their environment.

We have been sending our son to the Froebel Carlton ELC for almost a year now. The high level of care from staff is obvious: not a pick-up or drop-off occurs without multiple members of the team telling consistent stories about how our son's day has gone, what he's been up to and who he's making friends with. Thank you Tatiana and team for helping our child grow into a confident and capable individual.

We absolutely love Froebel Carlton. Our son has been attending for about a year and we have been so impressed with the care and attention he gets. All of the staff are friendly, professional and very easy to communicate with. We receive regular updates on our child's progress and get to collaborate with the centre about his education plan. The team also runs additional community days to help the families meet each other and get to know the team better. Our son always has a big smile on his face when he is at Froebel. Highly recommended.

Both my children attend Froebel Carlton and are thriving. The educators are outstanding and very nurturing towards the children. The facilities are excellent, modern and there's even a rooftop playground and terraces for kids to spend time outside. My kids love it here and are excited to attend each day. Despite reported management issues or high staff turnover at certain points, the quality of the care has not faltered. We would have liked more Spanish immersion but I understand that it may be difficult to find quality Spanish-speaking staff to deliver on this. My daughter's kinder teachers are non-Spanish speakers but we wouldn't trade them for the world. They are outstanding in every sense and my daughter loves them dearly.

Thanks Michelle, for taking the time to write this wonderful review, so amazing to read that you've had such a good experience at our centre and we have passed on your lovely words to our team and the Kindergarten teachers.

The educators are passionate about their work and dedicated to the wellbeing of the children. The educators are 5-stars. Unfortunately, this is undermined by ineffectual management. The Centre Director is allergic to emails and the Head Office is a lazy legal team that provides boilerplate responses to parents (much like the responses to the other 1-star reviews). They tell you to provide constructive feedback and then invalidate your concerns. Several of us parents raised concerns over food quality, poor communication, lack of excursions, and other issues related to high staff turnover, and they slapped a band-aid on the problem instead of addressing the systemic issue (i.e., poor management). Froebel has zero interest in letting parents be involved in the direction of the centre, but they are more than happy to take your money. They have higher daily fees (currently $191) compared to other childcare centers, but it is unclear what value they are providing for the extra cost. The things we valued were the Spanish immersion program and excursions, both of which have been severely diminished since the new Centre Director came on board (June 2024). It is clear from their actions that Froebel puts rigid adherence to policy and management's ego ahead of children's wellbeing.

Dear Debbie, thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. We understand that our approach to managing feedback may not align with your expectations, and we appreciate the opportunity to reflect on your experience. We're grateful for your kind words about the educators at our centre. We wish you and your family all the best moving forward.
