CSIROCare Black Mountain Early Childhood Centre

CSIROCare is a non-profit community-based early childhood service located on the CSIRO Black Mountain site in Canberra’s Inner North. The centre is administered by a parent management committee. The centre caters for children aged 0 to 6 years across four rooms. We are located in a purpose-built building with a large playground that has recently been renovated. The proximity to bushland and the Australian National Botanic Gardens allows us to offer lots of outdoor exploration and learning experiences.

Our children are provided for in a caring and safe environment by qualified educators with many years of experience. Most of our educators are diploma certified plus we have two qualified Early Childhood Teachers and two educators working towards their Teacher’s Degree.

We embrace equality and diversity and have collaborative partnerships with both families and communities. We are a multicultural centre where Everyone is welcome.

We offer varied and inviting play spaces both indoors and outdoors with programs based on children’s interests which creates a strong foundation for their learning and development. Our outdoor areas include our newly built outdoor playground, large sandpit area, bike track, digging pit and gardens. We also take our children beyond the fence to explore the bushland and have access to the Botanical Gardens. Our Indoor programming includes Active 8, Rocking Horse Music, ATSI, Recycling, Sustainability and Celebrations.

At CSIROCare we aim to continually improve our centre through regularly reviewing our practices, self-assessment, critical reflection, and staff surveys. We aim to deliver quality education and care above the National Quality Standards. From our assessment and rating, we are currently meeting all areas of the NQS.

We supply morning tea, afternoon tea and a late snack for our children. We ask that parents supply lunch. Our kitchen is fully equipped, and our cooks are certified in food safety procedures. We can cater for most children’s food allergies.
