About Birches Early Learning Centre
At Birches ELC Ormond we strive to create an environment that is inviting and warm which creates a sense of belonging. We run an indoor and outdoor program that allows children to seamlessly move between learning environments and experiences.
Our centre is open Monday to Friday from 6.30am to 6.30pm.
We are conveniently located a short 5-minute walk from Ormond train station, and we are tucked down a quiet side street off of North Road.
We provide nutritional and freshly prepared meals daily. Our chef is able to cater for all allergies and dietary requirements.
Open door policy
You’re welcome to drop in and see your child or speak with an educator. You do not need to call and tell us you are coming; you are welcome at any time. We would love for you to come in and join in our programs – your participation is valued.
Programs
Birches ELC Ormond provides experiences for children to further their skills and knowledge on top of our curriculum. Whether it’s sports, music or cooking there is something for every curious mind. Children are exposed to various incursions and excursions throughout the year which are always a hit!
Pets
Our centre chickens Bok Bok and Bailey are much loved and provide children with a sense of connection, empathy and caring. Our chickens instill a sense of responsibility and curiosity in our little ones who are eager to learn more about nature and ecology.
Our Curriculum
Reggio Emilia philosophy is an innovative and inspiring approach to early childhood education, which values the child as strong, capable, and resilient, rich with wonder and knowledge. The philosophy rides on the coat tails of the innate curiosity of children and aims to assist them with understanding their world and who they are in it.
Our curriculum has been influenced by the Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood education and is developed in accordance with the government’s Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF): Belonging, Being and Becoming. Both are a child-centered approach to learning and value the child as capable and rich with knowledge. We believe that the first place of learning for all children is their home. That is why we value you as the first teacher of your child and build on that learning.
Developmental portfolio
We accumulate a collection of your child’s artwork, photos and record any observations made whilst spending time with your little one. This will highlight the development and skills your child has established over the time they have been with us. Our portfolios are a complimentary keepsake of timeless memories you will be able to take away from your child’s time with us at Birches ELC.

This place has gone downhill ever since the old management left in august this year New management is certainly not competent and have no communication whatsoever Not to mention there has been no kinder teacher for months Highly recommend NOT sending your child here as it’s quite clear making money is more important then child welfare

We couldn’t be happier with the care our son has been receiving at Birches ELC. He’s been attending for a year now, and it has truly been a wonderful experience. The educators are incredibly caring, attentive, and amazing with the kids. They’ve built a genuine bond of trust with our little one, which means so much to us as parents. The team always strives to accommodate personal preferences, making it such a supportive and nurturing environment. Although the introduction/transition into cc was a bit challenging for our son, the team’s patience, understanding, and dedication helped him settle in beautifully. He’s now thriving, has made so many friends, and feels safe and happy. A big thank you to the entire team for the outstanding care and support. We’re so grateful to have found such a wonderful place for our son to grow and learn!
