About Bernard Briggs Kindergarten

The Benalla and District Preschool Partnership (BDPP) Philosophy is to respect, value and accept each child as an
individual having unique abilities, interests and needs, and taking into account the various ways children learn.
At our Centres (Munro Ave Preschool and Bernard Briggs kindergarten) we aim to provide the best opportunities
possible that will enable each child to develop to their full potential in an inclusive, warm and safe environment. We
have high expectations for every child’s learning and development.
At BDPP we have a holistic approach to Early Childhood Education, professional practise, especially those aspects that
involve building and nurturing relationships, curriculum decision making, teaching and learning (pedagogy).
We believe that play is crucial to the development of children. It is the way they explore, discover and learn about their
world, each other and themselves. Learning through play allows children to explore, experience, communicate, observe,
reflect, create, collaborate, co-operate, problem solve and imagine.
Children are encouraged to develop independence, self-confidence and to initiate play ideas. We provide many open
ended and natural materials and resources for the children to use. Our programs are based on our observations and
evaluations of the children, and our understanding of Early Childhood principles and reflecting the Victorian Early Years
Learning Framework, and Belonging, Being and Becoming, the Early Years Learning Framework for Australia.
At Bernard Briggs kindergarten we strongly value the competencies of Critical Thinking, Creativity, Communication and
Collaboration.
The kindergarten programs are carefully planned to meet the development needs of the children and are based on the
children’s needs and interests.
We believe in inclusive practices that accept, respect, support and reflect equity and diversity. All cultures are valued,
including Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, within the BDPP.
At BDPP our staff value and respect parent’s contributions and the importance of the link between home and kinder.
Our staff believe in the importance of the family being involved in their child’s kindergarten experience, at a level they
feel comfortable with. Parents/families are encouraged to contribute to the program. Learning is optimum for children
when staff work in partnership with each child’s family. This involves staff and parents/carers valuing each other’s
knowledge of the child and valuing the contributions that each makes to the child’s life.
At BDPP, we aim to provide an environment where staff as team members show trust, respect and support to each
other, and where they share their talents, and abilities, taking an ethical and professional approach to children and their
families and applying their knowledge and expertise in all aspects of their work. Staff work collaboratively and in
partnership with other Early Childhood professionals and services, to support children and families.
