About Banbury Cottage Child Care Centre

Banbury Cottage Child Care Centre originally opened in October 1999 with Amanda Dounis being the licensee. In late 2016 we became a Positive Living Skills Centre. The goal of the Positive Living Skills wellbeing programs is to create habitual skills to build emotional intelligence in children, starting in early childhood. Educators have been training over the past few months and now are implementing a variety of aspects of the program into the curriculum on a weekly basis. Educators and children are really enjoying the activities/experiences and a coming up with new ideas to link to the topics they are discussing.

In 2016 Banbury Cottage had a mini makeover with a new fresh coat of paint (externally) which was completed throughout the second half of 2016. The decision on the colour choice for the make-over was a group decision, all parties including management, staff, parents & children took a vote on a collection of colours that had been selected and by the end of a week of collecting all votes a colour was picked, and we think it looks great. Earlier in 2016 all rooms were freshened up with new coat of paint. Early in 2015 Banbury Cottage had its outdoor area resurfaced, with new rubber surfacing placed in our 4 outdoor play areas. Some new rockery gardens, large sandstone stepping stones leading to a beautiful wooden bridge and onto our new wooden deck were our children create their own play. Our deck has been the home to many wonderful experiences, we have had dance concerts, singing concerts, pretend teacher play, monster truck jams, musical instrument concerts, quiet reading in our tipi, group story times. Our flourishing tree has had a new bench built around it, were children sit and watch the birds & butterflies that visit our tree and bird houses. We have planted new plants in the space between bench and tree and it is great to see how well our children take care of the plants. Our centre is very well resourced, giving children the opportunities to explore a vast amount of experiences. Staff are very keen to explore environment & learning spaces with the children and are constantly making new resources with the children.

Together the centre will thrive in all areas as it currently does and previously did; mainly the educational program which is already assessed at an outstanding level will be modified and extended to meet the enthusiastic needs of families. It is understood that families are really ambitious for their children even at such young ages. We accept this and intensify our program to meet the individual needs of the children. We have recently adopted some new members to our team, some frogs which started off with us as tadpoles & fish friends .
